How it works

1. Listen. The extension captures the audio of the browser tab you are watching. Nothing else on your computer is recorded.
2. Stream. Audio is cut into 100 ms slices and sent, slice by slice, through a small relay running on your own machine.
3. Translate. The relay forwards the stream to a simultaneous-interpretation engine, which returns recognized text, translated text and synthesized speech as the speaker talks.
4. Play alongside. The translated voice plays next to the original, aligned to the video's own timeline, while bilingual subtitles appear on screen.
5. Stay in sync. Pause, seek or change speed and Parababel follows the video, discarding stale audio so the translation never drifts.

Why a local relay?

Translation engines require secret credentials. Keeping them inside a relay on your own computer means they never ship inside the extension and never reach a third-party server run by us. The extension only ever talks to localhost.

• The Parababel relay running locally (Python 3)
• Your own speech-translation API credentials
