Parababel is designed to process as little data as possible and to keep it on your own device wherever it can. This policy covers the Parababel browser extension, its local relay, and this website.
What the extension processes
- Tab audio — only from the tab where you turn Parababel on, and only while it is on.
- Playback state — play, pause, position and speed of the video, used to keep the translation in sync.
- Your settings — languages and volume levels, stored locally with Chrome's storage API.
Where the data goes
Tab audio is sent from the extension to the Parababel relay running on your own computer (localhost). The relay streams it to the speech-translation provider whose credentials you configured, and returns the translated text and speech to the extension. Parababel does not operate any server that receives your audio, subtitles or browsing activity.
The translation provider processes audio under its own terms and privacy policy. Please review them before use.
What we never collect
- No accounts, names or contact details inside the extension
- No analytics, advertising or tracking identifiers
- No browsing history, and no audio from tabs where Parababel is off
- No sale or sharing of data with third parties
Credentials
Your translation API credentials are read from a file on your computer by the local relay. They are never bundled into the extension and never sent to us.
This website
parababel.com is a static site. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics scripts. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
